Bursa Malaysia continued to decline to close lower for a second consecutive day on Wednesday in lacklustre trading as investors took profits after the recent rally against the backdrop of significant data releases and economic meetings this week, a dealer said.
Stocks on Bursa Malaysia ticked higher and kept the FBM KLCI on course for its best close since early June 2022.
At the midday break on Friday, the benchmark index had gained 0.06% or 0.99 point to 1,546.48. The index earlier rose to a high of 1,551.15.
KUALA LUMPUR: The benchmark FBM KLCI was flat at midday even as global technology stocks rallied on buying interest sparked by Nvidia's stellar results.
Stocks on Bursa Malaysia climbed higher in line with regional gains.
At 9.30am on Friday, the FBM KLCI had added 0.21% or 3.20 points to 1,548.69. It opened higher at 1,546.35.
The FBM KLCI lost ground for the second consecutive day on Thursday, trimming gains it made over the past few trading sessions.
The benchmark index fell 6.91 points or 0.45% to close the day at 1,545.49, after trading between 1,542.72 and 1,551.97.
Shares of Notion Vtec Bhd surged as much as 43% to its highest in more than a year on the back of a spike in trading volume following the electronic manufacturing services firm’s latest results.
Notion Vtec's shares rose to 45 sen, its highest since Feb 8, 2023. The stock was last trading at 43.5 sen at 3pm after more than 63.5 million shares changed hands, the largest volume in more than four years. In contrast, the benchmark index FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI was down 0.5%.
Stocks on Bursa Malaysia were mixed at midday on Thursday, resulting in the FBM KLCI extending its downtrend to remain lower at noon close.
At 12.30pm, the benchmark index ended the morning trading session 7.18 points or 0.46% lower at 1,545.22. It opened lower at 1,550.71.
