KUALA LUMPUR (May 15): Singer Mohamad Hafiz Hamidun has won a lawsuit against Kamdar Sdn Bhd (KSB), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Kamdar Group (M) Bhd, for claims of misuse of his name without authorisation.

In a filing to Bursa Malaysia today, Kamdar said KSB intends to appeal the decision by the High Court.

Hafiz had filed the suit on April 21 last year, claiming that KSB had used his name on a product sold by the company without his authorisation.

The singer sought unquantified damages, as well as exemplary damages totalling RM3 million and aggravated damages amounting to RM2 million.

Kamdar said the High Court has ruled that the damages be assessed at a later date.

Kamdar, which operates a chain of fabric-based department stores throughout Malaysia, saw its shares closed unchanged at 35 sen today, giving a market capitalisation of RM69 million.
