Sabah Ports host PAM, MIA at Wisma Ports

KUCHING: Sabah Ports Sdn Bhd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Suria Capital Holdings Bhd, invited members of Persatuan Arkitek Malaysia Sabah (PAM) and Malaysian Institute of Accountants Sabah (MIA) to Wisma Sabah Ports’ headquarters building in Sepanggar Bay.

The visit, hosted separately, is part of the company’s on-going engagement with professional bodies as a platform to share the Group’s development plans for the State particular in logistics and tourism.

Since taking over port operations in 2004, Suria Group has embarked on major developments via its subsidiaries Sabah Ports Sdn Bhd and SCHB Engineering. Port operations has remained as the backbone of the group however it has diversified along the years to include property development among its major undertaking.

In her briefing, Sabah Ports managing director and Suria Capital Holdings Bhd group managing director Ng Kiat Min briefed participants of Suria’s high end development projects, Jesselton Quay and One Jesselton Waterfront.

Situated within KK city centre, the 23.25 acres waterfront development is a joint venture between SBC Corporation Bhd (Jesselton Quay) and Gabungan AQRS Bhd (One Jesselton Waterfront). The first phase of Jesselton Quay is expected to complete within three years while construction for One Jesselton Waterfront is expected to start within the year.

She also touched on Sabah Ports plans for the Sepanggar area which includes the relocation of general cargo from Kota Kinabalu to a newly constructed terminal in Sepanggar thus creating an integrated linkage for containers, liquid and general cargo within the Sepanggar vicinity.

She further reiterated that Sabah Ports is keen to pursue the transhipment initiative which will see Sapangar Bay Container Port transform into a hub port for BIMP EAGA and gateway for intra-asia trade.

More than 50 member architects had signed up for the visit and as an added gesture, Sabah Ports provided a guided tour showcasing the buildings main feature. According to PAM, the association regularly schedules capacity building activities such as visits to newly operational buildings or structures with notable aesthetics.

MIA regional chairman Suzanne Lim said their 40-strong group well received the invitation and the visit has strengthened their understanding of the Suria’s role as a state GLC as well as Sabah Ports as a privately owned port operator.

Visitors were given the opportunity to explore the maritime inspired Executive Boardroom, once used as the venue for the State cabinet meeting in 2008, and the Executive Lounge known for its scenic birds eye view of the port operation and Sepanggar Bay skyline.
