KUALA LUMPUR (March 14): A new digital learning hub called JomStudi was launched at the Kampung Kering Internet Centre in Labu, Negeri Sembilan recently, a Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) statement said.

The educational platform for school students is a joint initiative by Digi, Astro and Media Prima.

The statement added that another programme called eKelas, initiated by Maxis in 2017, familiarises Form One, Two and Three students with Science, Mathematics and English through digital learning.

Meanwhile, in an effort to cultivate coding and robotics skills to be better equipped for the Fourth Industrial Revolution, MCMC hopes to step up programmes like myMaker which will improve one’s understanding of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) in relation to the Internet of Things (IoT).

Apart from this, the entrepreneur development programme has helped participants promote their products to a wider market online and increased earnings by more than 60 percent. To date, 16,393 online entrepreneurs have enrolled in the programmes

MCMC is encouraged by the response from underserved communities to the 870 Internet centres across the country, its facilities and programmes which so far have benefitted more than 590,000 people, with 57 percent being students.

The role of the centres is primarily as an information and communication technology (ICT) training centre for everyone from the young to senior citizens.
