PUTRAJAYA (March 19): The app, Price Catcher, compiles information on the prices of over 400 essential consumer goods and is updated with the latest functions to help consumers plan their purchases.

Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the price information in the application were compiled by over 1,000 Price Monitoring Officers of the Ministry on a daily, weekly and monthly basis.

Among the functions of the application were search according to category, location or word; location detecting; comparing prices based or the item or basket of goods and the direction to the premises of choice using Waze or Google Map.

The latest functions developed include price search information sharing facility via social media and announcements on the change in petrol prices or other consumer information, he told  a media conference after launching the application at his Ministry here today.

"It is hoped that Price Catcher can help consumers plan their spendings wisely by picking premises offering reasonable prices other than encouraging traders to be ethical and fix reasonable prices,’’ he said.

Saifuddin said the app could help consumers save time and costs by comparing prices of items offered by other outlets in the same location.

"Subsequently, consumers can plan their shopping by picking premises that offer reasonable prices," he said.

Saifuddin said consumers including Friends of KPDNHEP (FOK) should also share prices which could also benefit other consumers such as promotion prices while traders were encouraged to use the Price Catcher platform to announce promotions.

Feedback and proposals on improvements can be submitted via e-mail to [email protected] or comments can be made on the Ministry’s official Facebook and Twitter.
