SUBANG JAYA (March 19): The Ministry of Transportation has delivered a proposal paper to the Public Private Partnership Unit (PPP) to privatise the management of six marinas it is handling currently including at Pulau Mentagor which was never used since it was completed in July 2007.

Deputy Minister of Transport Datuk Kamaruddin Jaffar said that the five other marinas are located in Batu Uban, Pulau Indah, Melaka, Tioman and Kuching.

"Pulau Mentagor is uninhabited. The Ministry has tried to collaborate with the municipal council on the marina at Pulau Mentagor but eventually they made the decision not to handle the marina because of financial constraints.

"The project (Pulau Mentagor marina) was started a long ago under the previous Government’s policy to promote marinas. So we have decided to open it for privatisation it," he said at a media conference after attending an event here.

He said this when asked about media reports regarding the request of the Public Account Committee which wanted YTL Corporation Bhd to be responsible for failing to operate the marina on Pulau Mentagor.
