Last minute buying lifts Bursa Malaysia at close

KUALA LUMPUR: The benchmark FBM KLCI ended in the positive territory on Friday on last-minute buying in selected index-linked counters.

The benchmark index closed at 1,666,66, up by three points after trading in a range of 1,673.45 and 1,657.01. There were 377 stocks advancing against 470 stocks declining while 394 counters unchanged. Volume declined to 2.75 billion units worth RM2.13bil.

Consumer stocks dominated the gainers’ lists om Bursa Malaysia. Carlsberg added 90 sen to RM26.50. British American Tobocca rose 76 sen to RM35.48, Nestle was 70 sen higher at RM146.20 and Heineken Malaysia advanced 28 sen to RM22.98.

   

The top loser today was Ayer that fell 29 sen to RM4.31. United Plantations lost 26 sen to RM27.16 while Allianz fell 18 sen to RM14.30.

Asian market were trading mostly in green; Hang Seng increased 0.14% to 29,113.36 points, Nikkei 225 gained 0.09% to 21,627.34, Shanghai Composite was up by 0.09% to 3,104.15, CSI 300 fell 0.08% to 3,833.80 and South Korea’s Kospi rose 0.09% to 2,186.95.

European stock markets rose on Friday, relieved at the European Union’s agreement on a two-week reprieve that precludes Britain crashing out of the bloc without a deal next week, Reuters reported. 

Germany’s DAX 30 rose 0.22%, France’s CAC 40 gained 0.1% while UK’s FTSE 100 eased 0.27% in early trade.
