PETALING JAYA: Talk is rife that prominent businessman Tan Sri Wan Azmi Wan Hamzah and Datuk Mohd Zakhir Siddiqy Sidek are buying into debt-laden Scomi Group Bhd .

Sources said Wan Azmi and Mohd Zakhir are giving a commitment of RM40mil to Scomi Group, which will see the duo holding a significant stake in the group, close to IJM Corp Bhd ’s ownership.

IJM currently owns a 21.39% stake in Scomi Group. Wan Azmi already owns shares in the group, having a 0.72% stake through a pledged securities account with Public Nominees (Tempatan) Sdn Bhd.

It is yet to be known if Wan Azmi and former Renong Bhd managing director Mohd Zakhir will make a joint or separate acquisition of the significant stake.
