KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 6): The government has not reached a final decision on its review on My EG Services Bhd (MyEG), Pharmaniaga Bhd, Puspakom Sdn Bhd and Padiberas Nasional Bhd (Bernas) for alleged monopolistic practices as more time is needed to look into details of these companies and the industries they operate in.

Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Chong Chieng Jen said the Cabinet committee on market monopolies has not come to a final decision on the matter as the review is still ongoing.

"The final decision on the four [companies] has not been made, the relevant ministries are seeking more time to look into further details on the matter, and thereafter only can the committee decide and table its decision to the Cabinet," Chong said at a press conference here today in conjunction with the launch of the Malaysia Competition Commission's (MyCC) report titled Market Review on Food Sector under the Competition Act 2010.

He said the committee had yesterday held its second meeting, which was chaired by Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali.

According to websites of the companies under review, MyEG specialises in electronic government services while Pharmaniaga is Malaysia's largest listed integrated pharmaceutical group.

Bernas is involved in the procurement and processing of paddy, as well as the importation, warehousing, distribution and marketing of rice in Malaysia while Puspakom is a vehicle inspection firm appointed by the government to conduct mandatory checks on commercial and private vehicles.
