KUALA LUMPUR: The government has not reached a final decision on its review of MyEG Services Bhd (MyEG), Pharmaniaga Bhd, Puspakom Sdn Bhd and Padiberas Nasional Bhd (Bernas) for alleged monopolistic practices as more time is needed to look into details of these companies and the industries they operate in.

Deputy Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Chong Chieng Jen said the cabinet committee on market monopolies has not come to a final decision on the matter as the review is still ongoing.

“The final decision on the four [companies] has not been made. The relevant ministries are seeking more time to look into further details of the matter, and thereafter only can the committee decide and table its decision before the cabinet,” Chong said at a press conference yesterday in conjunction with the launch of a report by the Malaysia Competition Commission.

He said the committee on Monday held its second meeting, which was chaired by Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali.

MyEG specialises in electronic government services, while Pharmaniaga is Malaysia’s largest listed integrated pharmaceutical group.

Bernas is involved in the procurement and processing of paddy, as well as the importation, warehousing, distribution and marketing of rice in Malaysia, while Puspakom is a vehicle inspection firm appointed by the government to conduct mandatory checks on commercial and private vehicles.
