Upstream planters likely to do better

More profits: Higher CPO prices during the last three months of last year are expected to be reflected in the upcoming fourth quarter earnings of plantation companies.

PETALING JAYA: While plantation players are set to see an overall improvement in the upcoming fourth quarter (Q4) results season, analysts caution that profits may not be as high as anticipated.

Some players may have locked in sales at average selling prices (ASP) below the spot CPO prices seen during the last quarter, according to the analysts.

CPO prices had surged from last October until the first week of January, before declining on news of India slapping curbs on the imports of refined palm oil in Malaysia, and following the outbreak of the coronavirus.
