Wall Street finishes down as US-China tensions heighten trade deal worries

MSCI's gauge of stocks across the globe shed 0.76%, while the pan-European STOXX 600 index lost 0.75%. On Wall Street, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 101.78 points, or 0.41%, to 24,474.12. The S&P 500 lost 23.1 points, or 0.78%, to 2,948.51 and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 90.90 points, or 0.97%, to 9,284.88.

NEW YORK: Wall Street ended lower on Thursday, a day after hitting two-month highs, on a fresh wave of China-U.S. tensions that raised doubts about the trade deal reached early this year between the world's two largest economies.

President Donald Trump said the United States would react strongly if China imposes national security laws for Hong Kong in response to last year's often violent pro-democracy protests.
