KLCI up amid broad-based buying across Bursa
KUALA LUMPUR (June 16): Bursa Malaysia remained higher at mid-afternoon today, bolstered by brisk buying momentum and in line with rally in regional markets.
At 3.05pm, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) advanced 22.56 points or 1.51% to 1,521.39 from Monday’s close of 1,498.83.
The index opened 20.09 points higher at 1,518.92.
On the broader market, gainers outnumbered losers 899 to 163, while 249 counters were unchanged, 605 untraded and 19 others suspended.
Turnover stood at 5.32 billion units worth RM2.62 billion.
Among the heavyweights, Maybank increased nine sen to RM7.79, TNB soared 18 sen to RM12, Public Bank went up 10 sen to RM16.52, Petronas Chemicals rose eight sen to RM6.55, IHH Healthcare was seven sen higher at RM5.49, and Maxis put on 12 sen to RM5.39.
Of the most active counters, AT Systematization gained one sen to 14.5 sen, Prestariang jumped 19 sen to 51.5 sen, Barakah Offshore and ConnectCounty both rose 2.5 sen to 4.5 sen and 35.5 sen, respectively, Minetech was 1.5 sen to 29.5 sen and Compugates edged up half-a-sen to two sen.
On the index board, the FBM Emas Index increased 183.85 points to 10,683.7, the FBMT 100 Index rose 173.63 points to 10,548.25 and the FBM 70 surged 285.88 points to 13,082.28.
The FBM Emas Shariah Index expanded 220.42 points to 12,116.97 and the FBM ACE increased 262.42 points to 5,813.33.
Sector-wise, the Industrial Products and Services Index climbed 3.32 points to 135.96, the Plantation Index went up 82.64 points to 6,765.92 and the Financial Services Index bagged 140.68 points to 13,126.41.
