KUALA LUMPUR (July 3): Apparel manufacturer and fashion retailer Jerasia Capital Bhd is venturing into the healthcare industry by using its production lines to now produce personal protection equipment (PPE) for both local and export markets.

Its units Canteran Apparel Sdn Bhd (CASB) and Canteran Apparel (Cambodia) Co Ltd (CAC) have expanded their product portfolio and are now developing, producing and supplying PPE products that include non-woven isolation gowns, head covers, shoe covers, cloth face coverings and other related PPE garments, it said in a filing today.

Jerasia, which operates Mango retail outlets in Malaysia, said the subsidiaries had converted and repurposed its existing production lines, leveraging their expertise in the manufacturing of fashion apparels, to produce PPE garments.

“The production of PPE garments is carried out at CASB’s existing factories located in Johor, while the PPE garments to be produced by CAC [are] for the export markets.

“In the meantime, CAC continues to focus and to manufacture for the export fashion garment and accessories segment,” it said.

It said to date, the group has manufactured in excess of 750,000 units of PPE, valued at more than RM5 million.

The group added that the repurposing of the existing production lines had been part of the group’s plans to diversify its core manufacturing activity of producing fashion apparel to enter into the healthcare segment to fully utilise its resources and generate additional revenues.

Shares of Jerasia closed 2.33% or 0.5 sen higher at 22 sen, valuing it at RM18.05 million.
