IPOH (Oct 15): Bersatu deputy president Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu has urged all political party leaders in the Perikatan Nasional (PN) alliance to remain united in ensuring the stability of the Government.

Ahmad Faizal, who is also Perak Menteri Besar, said the Government should prioritise efforts to fight against the COVID-19 epidemic which was becoming more serious, besides ensuring the continued economic well-being of the people.

He said this when met by reporters after officiating the Perak State-level Innovation Day Celebration here today.

When asked about UMNO's consideration to withdraw its support for PN, the Tambun MP said the move would not give any advantage to the party as well as the members it represented.

Yesterday, UMNO secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan informed that the party’s political bureau meeting had unanimously agreed to review its support for PN and would propose fresh conditions to continue the political cooperation through a written agreement to be made as soon as possible.

Ahmad Faizal said so far, no discussions had been held on the matter by Bersatu, as its President Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin was still undergoing self-quarantine.

"When the president ends the quarantine and calls a meeting, we will give our views and discuss this matter with other colleagues, especially towards solving the people's economic problems and fighting together against COVID-19," he said.

Meanwhile, in ALOR GAJAH, Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali said the people were fed up with the prolonged political maneuverings of certain parties, especially at a time when the country was facing economic uncertainty due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We should take good care of this relationship (among UMNO, PAS and Bersatu). The people are also disgusted with politics because everything nowadays is being involved with politics," he said in a press conference after officiating the Al-Khawarizmi Planetarium Interactive Gallery today.

Ahmad Faizal and Sulaiman were speaking in reference to the relationship among UMNO, Bersatu and PAS in the PN coalition amid allegations that some MPs from UMNO were now in support of Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to take over as the new prime minister.

On Tuesday, Anwar, who is also the Port Dickson MP, had an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah at the Istana Negara and informed His Majesty that he had the support of the majority in Parliament to be appointed as Prime Minister.
