Noor Hisham: Nine more Covid-19 clusters identified

KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 25):  Nine more new Covid-19 clusters were reported in several states today, said Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

He said Sabah has four more new clusters, namely Titir cluster, Omadal cluster, Bandaran cluster, and Jambul cluster, while another five more are Bayan cluster (Penang), Mentari cluster (Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, and Kuala Lumpur), Jernih cluster (Negeri Sembilan), Seladah cluster (Sarawak), and Makekar cluster (Johor, Terengganu, and Selangor).

The Titir cluster in Keningau involved an index case (case No 20,232) detected from self-screening on Oct 18 and was admitted to Keningau Hospital.

"As at 12pm noon today, 23 individuals were screened positive for Covid-19 (12 new cases)," he said.

The Omadal cluster in Semporna involved index case (case No 21,073) found from screening a symptomatic individual on Oct 18 and was subsequently awarded at PPR Quarantine Centre in Bubul Ria, Semporna.

"Close contact screenings detected 20 more Covid-19 positive cases. As at noon today, 188 individuals had been screened and 21 were found [positive for Covid-19] (nine new cases) while 167 individuals tested negative," he said.

Noor Hisham said the Bandaran cluster in Kota Kinabalu involved an index case (case No 18,471) who was identified from the screening of a symptomatic individual on Oct 15 and was warded at Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

"Close contact screening identified 11 more Covid-19 positive cases. As at noon, 41 individuals were screened with 12 positive cases (five new cases) and 29  were negative," he added.

The Jambul cluster in Sandakan has the index case (Case No 14,932) from a symptomatic individual screened on Oct 9 and was admitted to the Duchess of Kent Hospital.

"Close contact screening identified seven more positive Covid-19 cases. As at noon, 30 individuals had been screened in which eight more cases were found [to be positive for Covid-19] (one new case); 20 individuals [found to be] negative and two individuals are still waiting for result," he said.

Apart from that, Bayan cluster in Seberang Perai Utara as well as south-west and north-east Penang involving index case (case No 22,930) identified from testing a symptomatic individual on Oct 21 who was warded at Penang Hospital.

"Close contact screening found five more positive cases. As at noon, 216 individuals had been screened in which six were found [to be] positive (two new cases); 60 individuals were negative and 150 individuals are still waiting for results," he said.

Noor Hisham said the Mentari cluster involved the districts of Petaling, Klang, and Gombak in Selangor; Seremban in Negeri Sembilan; and Kepong in Kuala Lumpur.

"The new cluster involved index case (case No 24,394) identified from screening a symptomatic individual on Oct 22 and the patient was admitted to Sungai Buloh Hospital.

"Close contact screenings found 16 more positive Covid-19 cases. As at noon, 93 individuals had been screened in which 17 cases was found [to be positive for] Covid-19 positive (five new cases) and 10 cases were reported negative and 66 individuals are waiting for results," he said.

Meanwhile, he said Jernih cluster in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan involved index cases (cases No 24,435 to 24,438) identified from screenings before returning to their country of origin on Oct 22 and were warded at Rembau Hospital.

"Screening of close contacts found 11 more positive cases. As at noon, 76 individuals were tested in which 15 were detected [positive for Covid-19] (11 new cases) and 61 are still waiting for results," he said.

He said the Seladah cluster in Kuching and Serian, Sarawak, involved index case (case No 24,448) identified from screening a symptomatic individual and was warded at Sarawak General Hospital.

"Testing on close contacts identified six more Covid-19 positive cases. As at noon, 18 individuals were screened in which seven were positive (four new cases); four individuals [were found to be] negative and seven are still waiting for results," he said.

The Makekar cluster involved the districts of Johor Bahru and Kulai in Johor as well as Kemaman, Dungun, Kuala Terengganu and Marang districts in Terengganu and Klang district in Selangor.

"The index case for the cluster (case No 23,800) was identified [to be positive for Covid-19] at a workplace screening on Oct 18 and was admitted to Hulu Terengganu Hospital, Kuala Berang.

"Close contact screenings found nine more positive cases. As at noon, 132 individuals had been tested in which 10 cases were found [to be positive for Covid-19] (eight new cases); 106 individuals were found negative and 16 individuals are still waiting for results," he said.
