Yi-Lai chairman Wong Gian Kui resigns due to personal commitment

KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 2): Datuk Wong Gian Kui has resigned as Yi-Lai Bhd’s independent non-executive chairman.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia today, the ceramic and homogenous tiles manufacturer said Wong resigned due to personal commitment.

According to Yi-Lai’s 2019 Annual Report released on June 30, 2020, Wong was appointed as independent non-executive chairman on Feb 24, 2016.

He was chairman of the Remuneration Committee and Nomination Committee, and a member of the Audit Committee.

“Datuk Wong is an accountant by profession and has been a member of the Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants since 1985 and a member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants since 1988,” said the group.

Furthermore, Yi-Lai said Wong is currently an executive director of Insas Bhd, Inari Amertron Bhd and Ho Hup Construction Co Bhd, and a non-executive director in SYF Resources Bhd.

“Wong does not have any family relationship with any director or substantial shareholder of the company, nor does he have any conflict of interest with the group. [He] has not been convicted of any offences within the past five years other than traffic offences, if any,” said Yi-Lai.

At noon break, shares in Yi-Lai had risen one sen or 1.12% to 90.5 sen, bringing its market capitalisation to RM131.74 million. It saw some 1.03 million shares traded.
