Kilang Bihun Bersatu (East Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of EKA is implementing a temporary closure for its manufacturing plant in Sibu, Sarawak ("affected plant") due to positive cases of COVID-19 infection amongst its factory workers.

Some of the affected employees are currently receiving medical treatment at the hospital whilst some employees are placed under self-quarantine. The affected plant is temporarily closed to carry out disinfection and sanitisation procedures.

KBBEM is not a major subsidiary of EKA. The capacity loss arising from the temporary closure of the affected plant is estimated around 10% of the Group’s total monthly output volume.

The Group is working closely with the Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia (“KKM”) and will continue to adhere to the COVID-19 preventive SOPs on a stringent basis. The other production facility located in East Malaysia is now placed under Movement Control Order (MCO) 3.0 until 14 May 2021. So far, this plant has been operating normally based on strict SOP of the MCO.

The temporary closure of the affected plant will affect the Group’s revenue and earnings for the financial year ending 31 December 2021.
