Senior Minister of State (Ministry of International Trade and Industry) Datuk Seri Azmin Ali pointed out that trade, exports, imports and trade surpluses have recorded double-digit growth for two consecutive months.
He pointed out in a statement today that total trade in the first quarter of this year increased by 14.8% year-on-year to RM505.65 billion; exports rose 18.2% year-on-year to RM282.1 billion; imports rose 10.8% year-on-year to RM223.51 billion. The trade surplus increased by 58.6% year-on-year to RM58.63 billion.
Azmin said that exports in March were driven by global demand growth, especially for electrical and electronic (E&E) products used in 5G technology and high-performance computing, as well as semiconductors and rubber products.
