韭菜是一种很坚韧的蔬菜，长高了可以收割，过不久又长高可以再收割，中国网民常以「割韭菜」来比喻主力大户拉高股价倒货给散户，而弱势的散户被戏称为「韭菜」，不断被主力大户宰割。股市主力大户往往是在股价低档、没什么利多消息时大买股票，等股价大涨、利多消息频传，散户被吸引而盲目追高，主力大户就顺势逢高卖出持股。当大量股票从少数主力大户移转到众多散户手中，股价就会下跌，甚至跌跌不休，散户因此套牢，或把股票杀在低点、认赔出场，这就是典型的「割韭菜」。当股市行情不好，散户通常不碰股票；可是当股市大涨、行情热络时，散户老手、新手往往「不请自来」，前仆后继投入股市，有些刚进场就很幸运尝到甜头的新手根本没在怕，但这些散户如果不长进，迟早会被割韭菜
