Bursa Malaysia remains lower at mid-afternoon

KUALA LUMPUR (July 15): Bursa Malaysia remained lower at mid-afternoon, dragged by continuous selling in selected heavyweights led by industrial products and utilities stocks.

At 3pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) fell 2.16 points to 1,417.90 from Thursday's close of 1,420.06. It opened unchanged on Friday.

On the broader market, losers trounced gainers 408 to 321, with 374 counters unchanged, 1,173 untraded, and 20 others suspended.

Turnover amounted to 1.43 billion units worth RM608.81 million.

Among the heavyweights, Malayan Banking Bhd eased three sen to RM8.59, Public Bank Bhd was flat at RM4.40, Petronas Chemicals Group Bhd gained three sen to RM8.06, IHH Healthcare Bhd lost one sen to RM6.43, and CIMB Group Holdings Bhd fell five sen to RM5.05.

Among the active counters, Sapura Energy Bhd, Kumpulan Jetson Bhd, and Reach Energy Bhd stayed flat at four sen, 22 sen, and 3.5 sen, respectively, while KPower Bhd rose one sen to 23 sen.

On the index board, the FBM Emas index went down 14.83 points to 10,047.07, the FBM Emas Shariah index lost 13.74 points to 10,078.52, the FBM 70 was 4.53 points lower at 12,017.50, the FBMT 100 index trimmed 12.33 points to 9,817.14, and the FBM ACE edged down 20.79 points to 4,532.03.

Sector-wise, the Financial Services index declined 52.18 points to 16,008.02, the Industrial Products and Services index was 1.17-of-a-point lower at 166.86, and the Plantation index shed 17.53 points to 6,651.68.
