JOHOR BARU (Sept 9): Conglomerate Oriental Holdings Bhd (OHB) will be investing RM150 million to build a new hospital, called the Oriental Medical Segamat, in Johor.

In a statement on Friday (Sept 9), Oriental Medical Segamat managing director Dr Tan Hui Ling said the construction of the hospital, on a newly purchased 2.36-hectare land, is OHB's second hospital after Oriental Melaka Straits Medical Centre (OMSMC) in Klebang, Melaka.

Tan, who is also the MD of OMSMC, said the new hospital is part of OHB’s expansionary plans in the north Johor region.

“The new Oriental Medical Segamat is located within the east precinct of IOI Segamat City. This strategic location is about 10 minutes' drive from the city centre, providing good access for patients around Segamat, which has about 200,000 residents.

“The seven-storey medical centre with 150 beds is scheduled to open in 2026,” she said.

The hospital will offer various medical and surgical treatments, such as anesthesiology and critical care, general surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, ophthalmology, orthopaedics, otorhinolaryngology, urology, cardiology, gastroenterology, nephrology and geriatrics.

Oriental Medical Segamat is a subsidiary hospital of OMSMC, and is majority owned by OHB.

“These two hospitals will function as a medical hub and complement each other to provide affordable and high-quality healthcare,” she said.
