Hamzah: PN receives another statutory declaration supporting Muhyiddin as PM
KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 22): Perikatan Nasional (PN) has purportedly received another statutory declaration (SD) from a Member Of Parliament who pledged support to the coalition's chairman, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, to be appointed as the 10th prime minister.
PN secretary general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin in a statement said the sworn statement was sent to Istana Negara on Tuesday morning (Nov 22).
On Monday, Hamzah announced the total number of SDs sent having exceeded 112 for a simple majority in the Dewan Rakyat, which is required for the appointment of the PM under Article 43 of the Federal Constitution.
Leaders of political parties and coalitions of political parties have until 2pm on Tuesday to submit to Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah the post-15th general election (GE15) coalition for the formation of a Government and the PM candidate.
The GE15 on Saturday ended in a hung Parliament as no party or combination of political parties obtained a simple majority to form the Federal Government.
The GE15 saw PN taking 73 parliamentary seats, while 82 seats were won by Pakatan Harapan, followed by Barisan Nasional (30), Gabungan Parti Sarawak (23), Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (six), Warisan (three), independent (two), Parti Bangsa Malaysia (one), and Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat (one).
