Notable filings

During the week of July 7 to 11, notable changes in shareholding at companies listed on Bursa Malaysia included that at oil and gas outfit Dayang Enterprise Holdings Bhd (KL:DAYANG).

The Employees Provident Fund (EPF) acquired 8.19 million Dayang shares and nudged its shareholding up to 92.91 million shares, or 8.02% equity interest, as at July 8. That is up almost 3% from just over 3½ months ago, when EPF surfaced as a substantial shareholder on March 20 with 59.72 million shares, or a 5.16% stake, in Dayang.

From end-July last year, Dayang’s stock has lost about 37% of its value. For its first quarter ended March 2025, the company registered a net profit of RM12.31 million on the back of RM153.82 million in revenue. For the corresponding period a year ago, it chalked up a net profit of RM27.91 million on RM247.12 million in revenue. The poor showing was attributed to lower vessel utilisation rates, lower revenue from third-party vessel chartering, and lower work orders received and executed under topside maintenance contracts, among others. On its prospects, Dayang says, “The activities in the second quarter 2025 are anticipated to improve as the monsoon season ends.”

Last Wednesday (July 16), Dayang ended trading at RM1.84 per share, translating into a market value of RM2.13 billion.

At Ark Resources Holdings Bhd (KL:ARK), which is focused on engineering, construction as well as property development, privately held Caturan Elemen Sdn Bhd surfaced as a substantial shareholder with 8.18 million shares, or 9.04% equity interest, after an off-market acquisition on July 10.

It is unclear from whom Caturan Elemen acquired the block of shares. According to the Companies Commission of Malaysia website, Caturan Elemen is equally owned by Husni Mohamed Husin and Sharuiddin Aboo Hassan.

According to Ark Resources’ 2024 annual report, Caturan Elemen had a 4.89% stake, or 4.43 million shares, as at July 19, 2024. Since end-July last year, Ark Resources shares have lost more than 40% of their value as the counter closed at 22 sen apiece to value the company at RM19.9 million last Wednesday.

RYRT Holdings Sdn Bhd has been trimming its stake in manufacturing and construction company Central Global Bhd (KL:CGB). It sold 5.73 million shares on July 10, reducing its shareholding to 89.81 million shares, or a 11.33% stake. In mid-January, RYRT Holdings held 102.02 million shares, or a 13.33% stake, in Central Global.

RYRT Holdings is the vehicle of Soo Yu Chai and Lee Chee Vui, an executive director of Central Global.

Central Global’s largest shareholder is its managing director, Chew Hian Tat, who has 29.53% equity interest in the company. Last Wednesday, Central Global closed at 88 sen for a market capitalisation of RM697.9 million.

Julius Leonie Chai ceased to be a substantial shareholder in Systech Bhd (KL:SYSTECH), a human resource management solutions and cybersecurity services company, after selling 30 million shares on July 8. Chai surfaced as a substantial shareholder in Systech in mid-May last year with 10.81% equity interest, or 69.44 million shares.

On July 9, Chan Soon Tat, a non-independent non-executive director, surfaced as a substantial shareholder in the company with 27.44 million shares, or a 4.17% stake.

Systech ended trading last Wednesday at 18.5 sen, valuing the company at RM121.6 million.
