KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 6): IJM Corporation Bhd's (KL:IJM) chairman has been released on Friday after being detained overnight to assist investigations by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

He was released within 24 hours due to his health condition, MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki told The Edge in a text message when asked if the anti-graft agency had detained IJM's chairman. By convention, suspects are not identified by authorities until they are formally charged.

“The investigation is still ongoing, and I am unable to comment on whether he will be charged at this stage,” said Azam.

The MACC had previously disclosed it is investigating allegations of money laundering involving IJM. The construction and infrastructure firm has rejected the allegations, describing the claims as unfounded.

In January, investigators from the MACC visited IJM’s office, alongside officers from the Inland Revenue Board to obtain documents.

The company said that its chairman Tan Sri Krishnan Tan has met and cooperated fully with MACC officers, while other personnel who have been requested to provide information are also assisting the authorities.
