PUTRAJAYA (Sept 2): Several individuals who were previously detained in connection with investigations into the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on Lembaga Tabung Haji will be charged in court on Thursday and Friday, said Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman.

“The two charges involve abuse of power under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009 and Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating," he told a press conference at the MACC headquarters here on Wednesday.

The charges are understood to be filed at courts in Shah Alam, Kuala Lumpur and Kelantan.

“There is also another investigation paper that will be referred to the attorney general, and charges are expected to be filed next week following the MACC’s latest investigation into a property lease issue involving the Al Rawda investment, namely hotel leases in Makkah and Madinah involving 2.49 billion Saudi riyals,” he said.

Abd Halim did not rule out the possibility that the investigation paper expected to result in charges next week could involve prominent individuals who had also previously been remanded by the MACC.

He said that overall, the MACC had opened 14 investigation papers related to the Tabung Haji RCI, four of which had been classified as 'no further action'.

“So far, 18 individuals have been detained, 11 of whom were remanded, while 245 witnesses have been called and 60 premises searched and inspected to obtain relevant documents,” he said.

He said the 11 individuals who were remanded included a former chief executive officer of TH Plantations, an ex-chief financial officer of TH Plantations, a former director of Putra Perdana Construction, a former director of Putrajaya Perdana Bhd and a former chairman of Tabung Haji.
