KUALA LUMPUR: Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) and Uzma Bhd yesterday issued separate statements to refute allegations of preferential treatment that were raised in a blog post on Tuesday.

“With reference to malicious allegations contained in a post in an unverified online site, Petronas wishes to state in the strongest terms that the allegations are unsubstantiated and untrue,” the national oil company said, adding it has filed reports with the relevant authorities in regard to the blog post and will leave it to the authorities for further action.

“Petronas maintains the highest standards of corporate governance and transparency in all our business dealings and we will not hesitate to take action against anyone who continues to malign the reputation and integrity of the company or its people,” Petronas added.

Petronas’ statement came after an online blog queried whether it was true that certain companies get preferential treatment from Petronas “as long as there are scandalous relationships and bribes paid”. The same portal alleged that Uzma had received preferential treatment from Petronas.

Uzma similarly slammed the report as malicious and false.

“With reference to a report published in an unverified online site on Jan 29, 2019, Uzma strongly refutes the malicious and false allegations that have been made against our company, its executives and its main customer.

“We are committed to ethical business practices and good corporate governance in order to be an exemplary corporate citizen in the oil and gas industry. Uzma has filed reports with the relevant authorities and we leave the matter for their further action,” the oil and gas support services provider said.
