PETALING JAYA: Two Malaysian companies have signed deals, worth RM66 million, with Vietnam’s largest seafood processing and export group, Hung Voung Corp Ltd, to provide systems for its largest cold room facility in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

Its President, Duong Ngoc Minh said work on the US$50 million facility  began two months ago and was scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2017.

“The 120,000 cubic metres storage and distribution facility can store up to 60,000 tonnes export-bound processed seafood,” he told reporters at a signing ceremony here today.

Duong signed a RM43 million Automated Storage & Retrieval System (ASRS) agreement, on behalf of Hung Voung, with SKB Shutters Corp Bhd and a RM23 million energy efficient system deal with CycleWorld Corp Sdn Bhd.

Duong said although the company was approached by other foreign companies for the project, the two Malaysian companies were chosen because of their long-standing collaboration in the past 18 years.

“The facility is also in preparation of the potential that the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement will offer.

“The cold room can reap rental income of US$60,000 per day,” he said.

In 2015, Hung Voung exported RM1.6 billion worth of fish products to Europe and the United States.

Meanwhile, SKB Executive Director Michelle Sin said the company would partner with Famosa Heavy Industries to provide the ASRS system for the warehouse.

Established in 1957, SKB is known for its roller shutters and insulated  security doors while CycleWorld is a leading polyrethane panel manufacturer and one of the largest cold room panel manufacturer and installer in Malaysia. — Bernama
