Unisem dropped from F4GBM index, 16 others added

KUALA LUMPUR (June 14): Come June 24, Unisem (M) Bhd will be dropped as a constituent of the FTSE4Good Bursa Malaysia (F4GBM) index, which measures the performance of public listed companies demonstrating strong environmental, social and governance practices.

However, 16 new constituents will be added to the index, bringing the total number of constituents to 71.

They include Carlsberg Brewery Malaysia Bhd, Magnum Bhd, Chemical Co of Malaysia Bhd, Media Chinese International Bhd, Deleum Bhd, Media Prima Bhd, Fraser & Neave Holdings Bhd, Parkson Holdings Bhd, George Kent (Malaysia) Bhd and Ranhill Holdings Bhd.

The others are Hektar Real Estate Investment Trust, UMW Holdings Bhd, Hong Leong Financial Group Bhd, Velesto Energy Bhd, Lafarge Malaysia Bhd and Yinson Holdings Bhd.

In a statement today, Bursa Malaysia Bhd CEO Datuk Muhamad Umar Swift said the exchange will step up efforts to engage with companies and help them improve sustainability practices and disclosures through its outreach programmes.

"We aim to create a positive impact while also raising the quality and diversity of companies across the board,” he added.

The F4GBM Index was launched in December 2014 with a total of 24 constituents. Since then, the number of constituents has increased to 56 as at last index review last December.

The index is reviewed in June and December against international benchmarks developed in collaboration with FTSE Russell.
