Agrobank records increase funding in Sarawak

KUCHING (July 9): Agrobank, formerly known as Bank Pertanian Malaysia Bhd, has recorded increased funding in Sarawak this year, due to the huge potential of the agriculture industry in the state.

The covering president and chief executive officer of Agrobank, Khadijah Iskandar said, the bank’s total funding in Sarawak as of June 2019 was RM1,202.38 million, an increase of 9.41% year-on-year.

“It is higher than the growth recorded in 2018 during the same corresponding period,” she said in her speech at “Agro Agenda: Prospect and Opportunity In Agricultural Sector” business talks organised by the Agrobank, here today.

She also presented the offer letter of financing with a total amount of RM8,135,000 to its 10 customers in Sarawak.

Besides that, the bank also presented a certificate of appointment to four new AGROAgents and three of the best AGROAgents in Sarawak.

Khadijah also revealed that as of June 2019, a total of 1,069 AGROAgents were registered nationwide, with 114 AGROAgents are in Sarawak.

“This banking agent service is an initiative of Agrobank to extend the basic banking services through the appointment of registered bank agents, in line with the mandated role of Agrobank to help the under access,” she said.

The event also witnessed the handing over of Takaful Agro Nurani's sponsorship by five corporations to seven schools.

The corporations are LNL Industries Sdn Bhd, Chicwan Poultry Farms Sdn Bhd, Sabur Maju Sdn Bhd, Ho Chuan Sea Products Sdn Bhd and Siak Liang Enterprise Sdn Bhd. — Bernama
