Scomi gets two new major shareholders

PETALING JAYA: After two days of trading suspension, Scomi Group Bhd finally confirmed the widely-speculated entry of two new substantial shareholders into the group.

Prominent businessman Tan Sri Wan Azmi Wan Hamzah as well as former Renong Bhd managing director Datuk Mohd Zakhir Siddiqy Sidek, through his vehicle Gelombang Global Sdn Bhd, will become substantial shareholders in the debt-laden group, following an upcoming rights issue as well as a proposed restricted issue announced yesterday.

The group announced that Wan Azmi and Gelombang Global would be providing RM21mil each in loans to Scomi Group for their commitment to subscribe for their entitlement and excess undertakings in the rights issue.

In the event that a subscription amount of less than RM21mil each is required from the parties to achieve a full subscription level, the group said the balance amount would be allocated for the restricted issue.
