BANGKOK (Aug 9): Low-cost airline AirAsia has vowed to continue its fight against the additional passenger service charge (PSC) levied by Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) for passengers travelling beyond ASEAN countries.

AirAsia Group chief executive officer (CEO) Tan Sri Tony Fernandes said AirAsia which was set up 18 years ago had made ASEAN a smaller place and that “everyone can fly” following its low airfares.

However, he said  the PSC levied by MAHB from RM50 to RM73 per person for passenger travelling beyond ASEAN  is an unfair burden on passengers.

“We will continue to fight for the freedom to fly even long after I’m gone... Airport operators should help us to make travelling cheap,” he told a press conference here today.

Earlier,  Fernandes had attended the unveiling ceremony of  the LCC’s new “Sustainable ASEAN’ livery on its newest Airbus A320 in conjunction with the ASEAN Day celebrations in Bangkok.

In a recent court ruling, the Kuala Lumpur High Court had dismissed AirAsia and AirAsia X’s bid to strike out or get a stay on making outstanding PSC payments to Malaysia Airports (Sepang) Sdn Bhd (MASSB), a subsidiary of MAHB.
