KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 10): Based on corporate announcements and news flow today, companies in focus tomorrow (Sept 11) could include: Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB), Metronic Global Bhd, Carimin Petroleum Bhd, Eversendai Corp Bhd, Pintaras Jaya Bhd, AirAsia Group Bhd, AirAsia X Bhd, Minho (M) Bhd and Tan Chong Motor Holdings Bhd. 

The number of passengers passing through the 39 airports Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) manages in the country rose by 9.2% year-on-year (y-o-y) in August.

A total of 9.24 million passengers travelled through the airports in Malaysia in August, up from 8.47 million a year ago.

MAHB said international traffic rose 7% y-o-y to six million passengers, while domestic traffic grew 7.9% y-o-y to 6.6 million passengers.

"The domestic passenger movements growth was mainly contributed by Malindo Air and AirAsia Group Bhd," said MAHB in a bourse filing.

The Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) handled 5.4 million passengers in August, a growth of 6.7% from 5.07 million passengers recorded a year ago. Out of this, passenger traffic at KLIA Main Terminal grew 4.7% y-o-y to 2.59 million from 2.47 million, while traffic at klia2 rose at a higher 8.5% y-o-y to 2.82 million from 2.6 million. 

Metronic Global Bhd has won an audio visual and information technology system subcontract, worth RM18.7 million, for Permodalan Nasional Bhd's (PNB) 118-storey Warisan Merdeka skyscraper project.

Metronic said the subcontract was awarded by Samsung C&T Corporation UEM Construction JV Sdn Bhd (formerly known as KL 118 Tower Sdn Bhd) to its wholly-owned subsidiary Metronic Engineering Sdn Bhd (MESB) on Aug 29.

The group said the contract is expected to contribute positively towards its earnings and net tangible assets for the contract period.

Carimin Petroleum Bhd has bagged a contract to undertake hook-up, commissioning and topside major maintenance services for Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd at the Angsi oil and gas field offshore Peninsular Malaysia.

It did not disclose the value of the contract.

Carimin said its wholly-owned subsidiary Carimin Engineering Services Sdn Bhd had on Aug 21, accepted a letter of award from Petronas Carigali for the job.

The contract will be for 15 months, with completion on Nov 15, 2020.

Eversendai Corp Bhd has bagged contracts worth RM288 million in Dubai, Saudi Arabia, India, Singapore and the Netherlands despite challenges and uncertainties in the global economy.

The latest contract wins bring its total outstanding order book to RM2.39 billion.

In India, the group has secured three new jobs, which are structural steel works for three commercial building towers in Hyderabad, an airport main terminal building and an ITC boiler structure in Chennai.

"The group continues to strengthen its position in the Middle East by undertaking structural steel works for the Saudi Pavilion designed for the Dubai Expo 2020 in Dubai and a suspension bridge project in King Abdullah Financial District, Saudi Arabia," Eversendai said.

Another project is the engineering and fabrication of a jacket and piles contract in the Netherlands.

The new wins also include a data centre project in Singapore.

Pintaras Jaya Bhd has bagged three piling contracts worth a combined RM80 million.

This brings the total new contracts secured to 13, collectively worth RM327 million.

In a bourse filing, Pintaras said the contracts were secured via its indirect wholly-owned subsidiary in Singapore, Pintary Foundations Pte Ltd.

The projects are to commence in October, with contract periods ranging from four months to seven months.

"These contracts are expected to contribute positively to the group's earnings," said Pintaras.

Aviation regulator Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) slapped low cost carrier AirAsia Group Bhd and its associate AirAsia X Bhd (AAX) with a fine of RM200,000 each for charging credit and debit card and online banking processing fees separate from their base fares between June 1 and Aug 9.

Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) was also not spared, as its subsidiary Malaysia Airports (Sepang) Sdn Bhd (MA Sepang) was slapped with a RM1.18 million fine for not complying with the Airports Quality of Service (QoS) Framework at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and klia2 in Sepang.

All three companies had received letters from the commission on the imposition of the financial penalties last Friday (Sept 6).

Minho (M) Bhd said a fire incident occurred on Saturday evening at its subsidiary's timber complex at Bandar Tun Abdul Razak in Jengka, Pahang.

In a statement to Bursa Malaysia, diversified group Minho said the cause of the fire at the complex belonging to its wholly-owned subsidiary, Lionvest Corp (Pahang) Sdn Bhd is still being investigated.

Tan Chong Motor Holdings Bhd said the joint venture (JV) agreement between its wholly-owned subsidiary ETCM (V) Pte Ltd (ETCMV) and Nissan Motor Co Ltd (NML) to import and distribute Nissan vehicles and parts in Vietnam, has been extended to Sept 30, 2020 following discussions between ETCMV and NML.

Tan Chong said the JV agreement dated Sept 22, 2010 is supposed to end on Sept 10, 2019 based on the agreement's termination notice.
