Axiata in talks with 11 potential partners for digital licence

KUALA LUMPUR: Axiata Group Bhd, which returned to the black in the fourth quarter of financial year ended Dec 31,2019 (4Q19), is in talks with 11 potential partners to bid for a digital banking licence from Bank Negara.

The submission of the bid to the central bank is expected to be in June this year.

Axiata Group deputy group chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Izzaddin Idris said the 11 companies include a mix of local banks and e-wallet players although hinting that partnering with a bank will be the preferred choice.
