April inflation falls 2.9% on-year, lowest since 2010

The lower average price of RON95 in April 2020 at RM1.27 per litre as compared to RM2.08 in April 2019 contributed to the decrease of the transport and overall index.

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s consumer price index (CPI) for April fell at a sharper rate of 2.9% from a year compared with a Bloomberg survey of a -1.6% decline due to transport and housing, gas and other fuels during the Movement Control Order (MCO).

Chief Statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin said on Wednesday the CPI’s 2.9% decline in April 2020 to 117.6 as against 121.1 in the same month of the preceding year.

“This was the lowest rate of change recorded since 2010, ” he said in a statement.
