Thousands to lose their jobs this year
AROUND 100,000 Malaysians may lose their jobs this year due to the impact of the novel coronavirus pandemic, according to a report by the Social Security Organisation’s (Socso) Employment Insurance System.
The report, published on Wednesday, said more than 15,000 workers lost their jobs in the first quarter.
The number of layoffs is expected to increase to 23,175 people in the second quarter and to continue to swell to 30,366 in the third quarter.
In the last quarter, more than 37,000 is expected to lose their employment.
