KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia edged higher at midday on Wednesday as the FBM KLCI was given the boost from continued buying of glove makers especially export-driven Hartalega and Top Glove as Covid-19 cases surged in the US.
At midday, the KLCI was up 6.51 points or 0.43% to 1,507.48. Turnover was 4.41 billion shares valued at RM1.67bil. There were 495 gainers, 348 losers and 365 counters unchanged.
Market sentiment was given a boost after the headline IHS Markit Malaysia Manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) rose sharply to 51.0 in June 2020 from 45.6 in May 2020, its highest since September 2018.
Bernama quoted IHS Markit as stating the positive data indicated an improvement in the health of Malaysia's goods-producing sector and stronger economic growth more generally.
