KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia started August on a cautious note on Monday, in line with the mixed Asian markets as the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic continues and amid US-China tensions.
At 9.30am, the FBM KLCI was down 7.17 points or 0.45% to 1,596.58. Turnover was 1.88 billion shares valued at RM1.21bil. There were 362 gainers, 366 losers and 316 counters unchanged.
The KLCI would have fared worse if not for Top Glove and Hartalega which have underpinned the 30-stock index over the weeks due to the widening spread of the pandemic and surge in demand for gloves.
The coronavirus has infected 4.6 million people in the United States and more than 17.96 million people globally, reports said.
