KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 22): UMW Holdings Bhd's (UMW) wholly-owned subsidiary UMW Aerospace Sdn Bhd successfully rolled off its maiden fan case for Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines yesterday.

In a statement, the group said the fan case will be delivered to the Rolls-Royce engine assembly and test facility at the Seletar Aerospace Park in Singapore.

According to the group, the Trent 7000 engines are used by the Airbus A330neo aeroplanes.

In August 2015, UMW Aerospace received a 25+5 year contract from Rolls-Royce plc to manufacture and assemble fan cases for the latter's Trent 1000 and Trent 7000 engines as a Tier 1 supplier.

Subsequently, the group invested RM750 million to establish an aerospace component manufacturing plant at its UMW High Value Manufacturing Park in Serendah.

"Moving forward, while the group expects the aerospace subsegment to face headwinds following the outbreak of Covid-19, we are partially cushioned by fan case orders that have been received for the rest of the year," said UMW acting president and group chief executive officer Azmin Che Yusoff.

As at the time of writing, shares in UMW were down one sen or 0.39% at RM2.55, bringing its market capitalisation to RM2.98 billion.
