KUALA LUMPUR: Blue chips eked out mild gains early Wednesday, tracking the firmer overnight close on Wall Street on hopes of a Covid-19 stimulus deal soon while the broader market was firmer on rising trading volume.
At 9.18am, the FBM KLCI was up 1.62 points or 0.11% to 1,512.59. Turnover rose to 1.15 billion shares valued at RM450.57mil. There were 336 gainers, 227 losers and 323 counters unchanged.
Most Asian stocks rose and US futures extended overnight gains amid optimism about progress on stimulus talks in Washington, Bloomberg reported.
Shares climbed in Japan and South Korea, and fluctuated in Australia. S&P 500 contracts edged higher after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said she remains hopeful of a deal before the election.
