KUALA LUMPUR: Blue chips struggled on Wednesday as profit taking picked up pace on recent gainers and the broader market turned slightly weaker in the absence of strong fund buying support.
At 5pm, the FBM KLCI was down 5.4 points or 0.34% to 1,604.75. Turnover was 14.41 billion shares valued at RM5.08bil. The broader market weakened with 731 losers to 473 gainers and 456 counters unchanged.
The ringgit strengthened against the US dollar to 4.08712 at 5.10pm.
Among the key Asian markets, except for Japan's Nikkei 225 which fell 1.1%, the others ended higher. The Shanghai Composite gained 0.22%, Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index added 0.49% and South Korea's Kospi 0.26%. Singapore's Straits Times Index ended 0.23% up.
