KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 30): The Teratai cluster, which originated from Top Glove Corp Bhd's worker dormitories in Meru, Klang, recorded 18 new Covid-19 cases today, according to the Ministry of Health (MoH).

Based on the MoH's data, about 6,602 people living in the area have been screened and 4,278 positive cases have been detected so far.

There are now 2,693 active cases that carry high transmission risks under this cluster, while 1,585 patients have recovered, with no deaths reported so far.

Earlier today, Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced that the two-week Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) imposed on Top Glove's worker dormitories, which was scheduled to end today, has been extended until Dec 14.

Meanwhile, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said about 11,215 Top Glove workers have been identified by the ministry for Covid-19 screening.

"We conduct screening in stages within these two weeks. We will [further] extend the EMCO period if we are unable to screen all of the identified workers," he told a press briefing today.

Last week, he said infections within the Teratai cluster had not spread to the surrounding communities, as they had been confined to Top Glove's workers and their close contacts.

The Teratai cluster was first reported by the ministry on Nov 7, with the index or the first case found positive on Nov 2 following symptomatic screening.

Malaysia reported 1,212 new Covid-19 cases today, lifting its tally of infections to 65,697.
