KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 4): Travel management and services company Parlo Bhd’s worldwide migrant worker services business is unaffected by the political change in Myanmar.

Executive director Ti Lian Seng said the company’s business had continued as usual as the situation remained stable and calm, with no indications that there would be changes in the government’s policy regarding migrant workers.

The company signed a definitive agreement with Myanmar-based Diamond Palace Group of Companies Ltd in October last year to provide travel, ground logistics, dormitory and medical examination to outbound migrant workers departing from and returning to Myanmar.

Myanmar is currently being controlled by the military after a coup d'état on Feb 1, and has been placed under a state of emergency.

“Having said that, we are confident that the migrant workers, who are often the sole breadwinners in their families, will continue to work abroad and continue to take care of their families,” said Ti in a statement today.

Meanwhile, Diamond Palace chairman Datuk Thein Than assured that migrant workers working outside of Myanmar and those planning to pursue overseas job placements would not be affected by the country’s current situation.

“They are contributing significantly to Myanmar through their foreign currency remittances.

“On a micro level, this has a positive impact on healthcare, entrepreneurship, education and overall economic development of the recipient families,” he added.
