KUALA LUMPUR: The Year of the Ox got off on a strong footing in early Monday trade as the FBM KLCI crossed the key 1,600 confidently, underpinned by gains in Tenaga Nasional and Telekom Malaysia.
At 9.09am, the KLCI was up 12.9 points or 0.81% to 1,612.32. Turnover was 628.09 million shares valued at RM296.71mil. There were 442 gainers, 159 losers and 341 counters unchanged.
Bloomberg reported Asian stocks pushed higher amid signs of growth and a slowing in the pace of coronavirus outbreaks. WTI crude oil breached US$60 dollars a barrel as an arctic freeze gripped parts of the US.
Stocks climbed in Japan and Australia, and S&P 500 futures ticked higher. Data showed Japan’s economy grew by double-digits last quarter, beating expectations.
