Hartalega, Supermax underpin KLCI rebound at noon

KUALA LUMPUR: Returning investor interest in glove stocks amid the Covid-19 pandemic enabled the FBM KLCI recoup more than half of the previous day’s losses.

At 12.30pm, the KLCI was up 6.18 points or 0.39% to 1,596.91. Turnover was 4.07 billion shares valued at RM2.20bil. The broader market was firmer with 523 gainersm 405 losers and 463 counters unchanged.

Reuters reported Asian share markets advanced marginally as investors looked to signs of recovery from the coronavirus pandemic as major economies around the world reopen.

MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan was just 0.15% higher heading into the Asian afternoon session in trading thinned by holidays in China and Japan. Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index was trading 0.3% higher at 28,441.95.

Meanwhile, the Asean+3 Macroeconomic Research Office (AMRO) said Malaysia is in a strong position to ride a vaccine-led global economic recovery once the domestic Covid-19 situation is under control.

AMRO expects GDP growth to rise from -5.6% in 2020 to 5.6% in 2021 and 6.2% in 2022.

At Bursa, Hartalega rose 46 sen to RM10.44 and Supermax 13 sen higher at RM6.01 while Top Glove edged up two sen to RM5.50.

As for plantations, Sime Plantation added six sen to RM4.56, KL Kepong and PPB Group four sen each to RM22.18 and RM18.54 while IOI Corp gained three sen to RM4.10.

Among the banks, RHB Bank added three sen to RM5.23, CIMB edged up one sen to RM4.14, Public Bank was flat at RM4.13 while Maybank shed one sen to RM8.26.

Petronas Chemicals rose three RM8.20, Petronas Gas shed four sen to RM15.66 and Petrona Dagangan was flat at RM19.78.

TransOcean surged nearly 23% or m1.19 to RM6.37 with over three million shares done.

Other gainers were Gopeng, hitting limit-up or 29.5 sen to RM1.13, TGL 23 sen or 10.3% to RM2.45.

Other penny stocks which jumped in active trade were mTouche, up 130% or 15 sen to 26.5 sen while Golden Pharos, up 36% or 14.5 sen to 54.5 sen.

However, MPI slumped 34 sen to RM38.16, Vitrox 24 sen lower at RM15.76, Pentamaster 17 sen to RM5.49 while Dataprep lost 11 sen to RM1.55 and Greatec six sen to RM5.79.
