GEORGE TOWN (June 27): The Ministry of Communications and Multimedia (KKMM) hopes that the State Health Department (JKN) will help expedite the vaccination process for media personnel, as many have not received their vaccine shot.

Deputy Minister Datuk Zahidi Zainul Abidin said as the number of vaccines has increased, this is a great opportunity for frontline personnel including the media to be vaccinated.

“Media practitioners are regarded as frontliners who should be given priority as they work in the field to channel news to the public and they are exposed to Covid-19 infection.

"I was informed that several media personnel have yet to be vaccinated and I also wish to thank JKN Penang for helping to speed up the vaccination process for them (media personnel)," he told reporters after checking on a media vaccination programme at Bandar Baru Ayer Itam Health Clinic here today.

Through the programme, 117 media personnel in Timur Laut district received the first dose of Covid-19 vaccine. Also present was the district health officer Datin Dr Azizah Ab Manan.

Zahidi said he hoped the heath department in other states would follow the example of Penang JKN, which has helped expedite the process, adding that currently, 5,000 media personnel have registered nationwide.

In another development, he said the ministry would raise complaints and grievances from the public over the increase in number of Covid-19 workplace clusters involving the manufacturing sector.

He said the public had channeled their dissatisfaction through the Information Department and the matter would be brought to the Cabinet and National Security Council’s attention.
