KUALA LUMPUR (July 29): MRCB George Kent Sdn Bhd has issued a stop work order to one of its contractors, following the collapse of a scaffolding at a LRT project site in Klang, killing one construction worker and injuring three others.

“We will investigate the fall of scaffolding at the LRT Shah Alam construction site on Jalan Langat, Bandar Baru Tinggi (adjacent to Lotus’s Klang and Premiere Hotel), and will closely monitor the recovery of injured workers and ensure their well-being is prioritized.

“We have immediately issued a stop work order to LRT Shah Alam GS09 work package contractor Pembinaan Jaya Zira Sdn Bhd, after the construction accident,” MRCB George Kent project director Patrick Hwang Chee Leong said in a statement.

The company said it will be cooperating with all authorities to investigate the accident and will also appoint an independent consultant to investigate its root cause.

It added that it will prepare and submit a detailed report on the findings by the independent consultant to the relevant authorities.

“MRCB George Kent would like to express our deepest regret over the demise of one construction worker and the injury of three construction workers,” said Hwang.

The company thanked the authorities, the police and the fire and rescue department for arriving at the scene quickly, and for their assistance in managing traffic flow and rescuing the victims.

Earlier today, it was reported that a Bangladeshi construction worker was killed in the incident.

The Selangor Fire and Rescue Department was said to have received a call about the incident at 2.41pm, with the victim recovered from the rubble at 4.20pm.
