Lai Voon Hon steps down as Ireka chairman after just 1.5 months at the helm

KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 19): Datuk Lai Voon Hon has resigned as Ireka Corp Bhd chairman effective today, after holding the post for just one and a half months.

In a bourse filing, the group said Lai resigned from the position “to pursue other interest”.

Lai, 57, was appointed as chairman on July 5, prior to which he had served as the group’s managing director since April 2015.

In a separate filing, Ireka announced the appointment of Tan Sri Mohd Ismail Che Rus as its new non-independent and non-executive chairman.

Mohd Ismail, 78, is the father of Mohd Hasnul Ismar Mohd Ismail, the group’s current managing director.

Mohd Ismail currently is president of the retired senior police officers association. He had previously served as a senior independent non-executive director of Ancom Bhd, Nylex (M) Bhd and Selangor Dredging Bhd.

Ireka’s shares price closed down 0.5 sen or 0.81% at 61.5 sen, for a market capitalisation of RM121 million.
