Bursa Malaysia remains lower at mid-afternoon

KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 4): Bursa Malaysia stayed lower at mid-afternoon on Tuesday (Jan 4) with selling in most heavyweight counters, led by Maxis, PetGas and CIMB.

Maxis shed 11 sen to RM4.49, Petgas declined 40 sen to RM16.82 and CIMB was seven sen lower at RM5.42.

At 3pm, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) fell 11.44 points to 1,537.61 from 1,549.05 on Monday. The index opened 1.87 points firmer at 1,550.92.

On the broader market, gainers surpassed losers 416 to 403, while 391 counters were unchanged, 1,063 untraded and 15 others suspended.

Turnover stood at 2.17 billion units valued at RM1.11 billion.

Among the heavyweights, both Maybank and Public Bank were down by two sen to RM8.31 and RM4.31, respectively, while PChem, IHH and PMetal were three sen lower at RM8.37, RM6.84 and RM5.63, respectively. 

Of the actives, Bintai erased 1.5 sen to 21.5 sen and SMTrack added 1.5 sen at 25 sen, while XOX and KGroup were flat at three sen and 1.5 sen, respectively.

On the index board, the FBM Emas Index was 51.89 points lower at 11,170.50, the FBMT 100 Index contracted 53.93 points to 10,863.88, the FBM Emas Shariah Index decreased 79.18 points to 12,017.15 and the FBM ACE fell 30.30 points to 6,514.97.

Conversely, the FBM 70 improved by 45.47 points to 14,271.32.

Sector-wise, the Financial Services Index slipped 6.0 points to 15,608.07, the Plantation Index erased 53.0 points to 6,607.38, while the Industrial Products and Services Index trimmed 0.60 of-a-point to 200.79.
