Former TM acting CEO Bazlan Osman joins BIMB board

KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 7): Bank Islam Malaysia Bhd (BIMB) has appointed former acting group chief executive officer of Telekom Malaysia Bhd, Datuk Bazlan Osman, as its new independent, non-executive director, together with former Petronas vice president of treasury Nuraini Ismail.

In a statement, BIMB said the appointments took effect on Friday (Jan 7), and that it expects the two new direcrtors to further strengthen its board composition as BIMB embarks on a new era as Malaysia's first full-fledged public-listed Islamic bank.

According to BIMB, Bazlan, 58, was previously TM's group CFO, then its deputy group chief executive officer and subsequently, its acting CEO (June 2018-Nov 2018), before serving as its executive director. Prior to his stint with TM, he was with Celcom Axiata Bhd as its chief financial officer in 2002.

Bazlan currently sits on the board of four other public-listed companies, namely Fima Corp Bhd, Bursa Malaysia Bhd, Syarikat Takaful Malaysia Keluarga Bhd and Glomac Bhd. He is also a director of Malaysia Professional Accountancy Centre.

Nuraini, 59, is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA), United Kingdom, and has a wealth of experience in the field of corporate finance, said BIMB.

She was with Bank Bumiputra Malaysia, Bumiputra Merchant Bankers and Mayban Finance, before joining Petronas in 1992, where she subsequently rose to the ranks to be the vice president of treasury, finance.

BIMB chairman Tan Sri Dr Ismail Haji Bakar said the bank looks forward to their valuable insights in steering the group to greater heights.

“Their expertise and proven track record within the industry will be an asset to Bank Islam,” he added.

BIMB’s shares price closed unchanged on Friday at RM3.05, giving the banking group a market capitalisation of RM6.33 billion.
